One thing we talked about was cars. Russ is very excited by some of the new cars out there. In fact he told me that someone had taken one of the new hybrids and used biodiesel to obtain an unbelievably good gas milelage. I was saying I’d get one if they weren’t so expensive. He made the point that it might be more affordable if they gave the same type of tax breaks people get for buying SUVs.
True enough. I don’t think we should be giving tax breaks for buying cars, particularly new cars or SUVs. The tax code is made to collect revenue not encourage people to buy big expensive automobiles.
