Acting With Integrity

Posted by Adam Graham on March 3, 2006

Radical Russ didn’t like my comments on Michelle Williams, the Kalispell native whose playing a role in Brokeback Mountains and several other immoral roles. Russ writes:

Yes, “Dawson’s Creek”, that vital cog in the breakdown of our culture. Nevermind your president torturing innocent people, bombing innocent children, lying to and spying on the American people, bankrupting the treasury, and getting DUIs, selling weed, and snortin’ blow as a young man.

Radical Russ Belville, proof that Basil isn’t exagerating when he posts a headline, “Swedish authorities report bird flu” with his comment below as “Bush blamed.” Indeed, I’d say that kids are going to pay more attention to parents and media stars than the President, unless he comes up with a “cool” “sex” that isn’t sex argument to be used by High Schoolers. Otherwise, unless there’s an epidemic of kids wiretapping suspected terrorists, I’d say this is kind of moot.

Actually, didn’t Abu Gharib remind you of the type of things you hear about in San Francisco. I actually took out time from the campaign in 2004 to comment on it.

The woman is an actress. Not every actress has to be Lisa Whelchel. Otherwise, who are you going to get to play all the less-than-Christlike figures in plays, TV, and movies? Or, are you advocating that all dramatic productions must be G-rated Mister-Rogers-like fluff?

No, I actually don’t advocate that people should be forbidden from making the type of movies Ms. Wood has starred in. My point had nothing to do with what the law ought to be, but rather the character of the actor.

Clearly, there’s a difference between playing a role that portrays the fact that there are bad guys who are immoral. There’s a fine line between portraying immorality and glorifying it, that’s the line that Ms. Williams has crossed throughout her career.

Second, I doubt you’d fine anyone who thought Jim Bakkar or Jerry Falwell where role models for the youth of America, or Christian youth in general. There’s also this thing called “Repentance” which Ms. Williams isn’t showing. She has no regrets about it, while Bakkar at the very least does. Unrepentant sin isn’t condusive with being a good Christian role model.

Somebody once said, “judge not, lest ye be judged,” but damned if I can remember the name…

Judgment is left to God. I’m just stating the obvious. God, in the end will decide her fate. Maybe, she’ll be one of those people who gets rights with God after the 2nd or 3rd broken marriage, or maybe she doesn’t at all. Maybe, when her child grows up and wants to start watching her movies, she’ll start making family friendlier stuff (ala Eddie Murphy.)

However, there’s a call to reprove the works of darkness. (Eph. 5:11) Jesus testified that the works of the world were evil. (John 7:7) In John 7:24, Jesus said to “judge righteous judgment.” Indeed, the passage on Judge Not (Matt. 7) then proceeds into a conversation on hypocrisy.

But, I’m sorry Russ, I know you don’t like the Bible in context.

Weekend Open Trackbacks, March 3-5, 2006

Posted by Adam Graham on March 3, 2006

I’ve been disturbed by the attempt of some to use marijuana to procure fraudulent voter registrations. Even if you’re not caught registering phony voters, the marijuana possession could have dire consequences. I recommend beer and cigarettes as payment in these cases. Also, to minimize costs, don’t be picky about the brands. Watered-down beer and cheap cigarettes work as well as a fine imports and expensive cigars.-Dave Screwtape in Screwtape #21, Your Fraud Matters

Unhinged Liberal Idaho Hat Trick: God Hates Larry Craig and Michael Crapo

Posted by Adam Graham on March 3, 2006

Seraphin wraps up our hat trick of liberalism in Idaho with this post where she reacts to Judge Alito sending a thank you note to Focus on the Family:

In the future, when women in the United States of America once again die in back-alley abortions due to the decisions of soulless cretins like Samuel Alito, be sure to thank Sen. Larry Craig and Sen. Mike Crapo for their votes to confirm him.

There’s not a Hell hot enough for you all, boys. Not hot enough by half.

Hold on! I thought it was just intolerant right wingers who thought people actually went to Hell. Or would even wish that on someone? The ironic thing is that liberals will be the ones, all in a tizzy if the Catholic Church restricts Communion to politicians who commit a mortal sin.

Apparently, the only mortal sin is being pro-life. I wonder if they’ll get together a funeral protest when one of the good Senators pass away? They can even get help from Fred Phelps with the signs. I’m sure Phelps or his descendants will agree that God hated Larry Craig and Michael Crapo (even if the Phelps’ don’t know who the Senators are, I’m sure they’ll agree that God hates them.)

The funny thing here is that liberals in Idaho complain that Conservaties don’t want to listen to them, don’t want to engage them in conversation. We’re beginning to understand why. Idaho liberals have a gross amount of fear, paranoia, and downright unhingedness about them. They view the majority of the state as a bunch of evil cretins. Arrogance doesn’t win friends or elections. With the blogosphere propelling these people farther to the left, Republicans should nominate Idaho for the rest of my lifetime.

The Unhinged Liberals of Idaho: Tonight, We’re Gonna Party Like Its 1789

Posted by Adam Graham on March 3, 2006

Over at 43rd State Blues, Serephin listed her quote of the week from a Firedoglake commenter:

Jeezus! With every passing day the French Revolution seems more and more reasonable.

Now, many of you don’t know what the commenter (who bravely maintains his anonymity) was saying, but its vitally important to understand the nature of the French Revolution. What did it do? In 1789, proclaiming liberty, fraternity, and equality, led by well-meaning liberals, Revolution was declared. The Revolution brought Napoleon to Power in a Decade. So, you see how it seems reasonable?

Of course, they came to power making great swelling promises of liberty, fraternity, and equality. They had a well-intended human rights plan. Of course, they went ahead and declared war on religious faith:

Of gravest consequence were the Assembly’s antireligious measures. Church lands were nationalized (1789), religious orders suppressed (1790), and the clergy required (July, 1790) to swear to adhere to the state-controlled Civil Constitution of the Clergy.

I guess to the liberals that would make sense. Of course, there was a second Revolution and we got a guy in office named Robespierre who in 1793 started The Reign of Terror:

Reign of Terror lasted from September 1793 until the fall of Robespierre in 1794. Its purpose was to purge France of enemies of the Revolution and protect the country from foreign invaders. From January 1793-July 1794, France was governed by the Committee of Public Safety, in which Danton and Robespierre were influential members. In the course of nine months, 16, 000 people were guillotined, but executions of those labeled “internal enemies” of France took place throughout the country.

It got so bad that Thomas Paine, the deist who later wrote “The Age of Reason” which challenged the divinity of Christ was imprisoned during this time by the French revolutionaries he came to help.

So, lets summarize, what this comment was saying, “Every day, the idea of repressing religion through law and rounding up your opponents and executing them sounds more and more reasonable.” This ends up listed by a 43rd State Blues diarist as “the quote of the week.” Quotes of the week are generally used when:

1) You strongly agree with the quote.
2) You think the quote is stupid.

The second is clearly not the case. Of course, some may say that they simply don’t know their history. So, the excuse then would be that liberals are stupid, but I’m not buying that for its far too simplistic.

As I perused the thread on Fire Dog lake, I saw no one who said, “Whoa, Mister, you’ve taken that a step too far.” Imagine the outrage if on a thread discussing a liberal Jew, someone on a Conservative blog said, “With every passing day, the Holacaust seems more and more reasonable.” There’d be a firestorm from the moderator and the Conservatives condemning. Talking about a Revolution where the result was thousands of bodies piled upon each other as a reasonable idea gets no condemnation.

In the end, it does serve as a reminder. Modern day liberalism is just a continuation of the French Revolution. The French Revolution promised liberty, yet it brought only subjugation to the almighty state. It promised fraternity, yet turned citizens upon each other in murderous rampages. It promised equality, but like animal farm, we found out that some animals are far more equal than others. It promised peace, but brought only an ocean of blood.

These are the stakes of our political debates. Don’t fool yourself, the French Revolution continues to this day. The players may have changed, but the game plan’s still the same.
