The Florida Masochist Memorial Knucklehead of the Day Award

Posted by Adam Graham on March 7, 2006

It has been a longtime since The Florida Masochist posted. (February 14th was his last post.) There’s not been a good Knucklehead of the Day Award in nearly a month. Dedicated to the idea that stupidity must be reward, Adam’s Blog will pick up the torch and name Knuckleheads until TFM is back blogging.

Now, today’s Knucklehead goes to Michael Ramos of Fontana, California. Ramos thought he was soliciting a teenage girl on MySpace.com, but he was fooled and badly. The “girl” was fictictious. Ramos, unlike other exposed sickos wasn’t caught by police or the media, but rather by 3 boys who had invented the girl to comfort a friend who’d lost a girlfriend.

Ramos will face years in prison, and thanks to three boys who thought on their toes, Ramos is the Knucklehead of the Day.

The Reverse Abortion

Posted by Adam Graham on March 7, 2006

All Things Beautiful has an interesting post up on a sad story out of Europe.

Long and short of it is that a woman was left infertile by cancer. She and her fiance underwent fertility treatments and several embryos were created, but they broke up and her fiance withdrew his consent. (What a worm!)

Anyway, she turned to courts in the European Union after the UK courts shut her down:

In the court’s judgement today, decided by a panel of seven judges, said: “The Court, like the national courts, had great sympathy for the plight of the applicant who, if implantation did not take place, would be deprived of the ability to give birth to her own child.”

But it was ruled, in a majority verdict that, even in such exceptional circumstances as Ms Evans’, the right to a family life – enshrined in article eight of the European Convention of Human Rights – could not override Mr Johnston’s withdrawal of consent.

It also ruled unanimously that the embryos did not have an independent right to life.

Now, its a tragic ruling for the rights of the unborn in Britain. All things considered it is a quite intriguing one. What happened to Ms. Evans is a tragedy but its not unheard of, there are lots of men who know the feeling.

First, let me acknowledge, there are lot of absentee deadbeat men who fail to take responsibility for their actions. Then there are those men who would take responsibility if only they knew. Others have even actively tried to talk their girlfriends or wives out of getting an abortion. Yet, they like Ms. Evans find it doesn’t matter how much they want this child, the other partner holds the power.

Those of you who look at this case as human beings and say, “My God, how monstrous, petty, and cruel this man is (and he is.)” How can we look at women who will in thousands of cases each year turn aside the fathers of their babies, claiming the unborn as their sole property without a care for who wants the child and end its life.

In a classic of women’s choice, Amy Richards infamously aborted two of her triplets to avoid things like “buying large jars of Mayonaise at Costco.” Her boyfriend didn’t want to, but all he could do was look on with horror as she recounted:

But Peter was staring at the sonogram screen thinking: Oh, my gosh, there are three heartbeats. I can’t believe we’re about to make two disappear.

As Alexandra pointed out the law in the case was sound as far as the precedents and the issues in the case, but that we have created a society where children are used and disposed of in the most selfish ways. Where games of power politics are played with the lives of the innocent and we butcher our own conscience in the name of things like choice or convenience.

Legislative Bloopers Midweek Open Trackbacks

Posted by Adam Graham on March 7, 2006

From the hallowed Halls of Idaho, some funny things happen. A couple funnies from Eye on Boise:

First:

As legislative budget writers set the budget for the Idaho Secretary of State’s office this morning, Sen. Brent Hill, R-Rexburg, noted one of the line items. “As much as some people would like to skip the election this year, I think we ought to fund it for $350,000,” he remarked.

and:

House Speaker Bruce Newcomb couldn’t stop laughing after Rep. Jim Clark, R-Hayden Lake, got caught talking on the phone just as he was supposed to offer the closing debate on the cigar tax bill, HB 693 – because it was the speaker himself who had called Clark on the phone. Newcomb had called Clark to check on today’s meeting of the Ways & Means Committee, which Clark chairs. Rep. Dennis Lake, R-Blackfoot, at the time was offering a blistering debate against Clark’s bill, calling it the “wrong way to go.” Then, Clark was called on to speak again – by the speaker. “In closing, stay off the phone with me, I’ve gotta close this one,” Clark began.

Funny stuff and this post is where you can promote your stuff (whether its funny or not). Here are the rules of the Open Trackback fest:

Bingo Reaches Out

Posted by Adam Graham on March 7, 2006

I read this and it cracked me up. From the Boise Weekly Courtesy of 43rd State Blues we have Bingo Barnes trying to reach out:

We’ve gone back and forth on one issue in the editorial department this week, but I believe that something needs to be said. Every legislator sitting in the Idaho statehouse who voted “yes” for the marriage amendment is a BIGOT. Yes, a BIGOT. And come election time this fall, if you vote for it, you’re also a bigot. I’d venture to say some of them are also homophobes, but BIGOT is a clearer way of putting it. A BIGOT is someone who discriminates because of race, gender or some other trait. By asserting that a group of people has rights that a different group of people will not be allowed, our legislators act discriminately, and I find it rephrehensible. When I look at their pictures (we have them in this issue for you), I see people who are just as disgusting as racists, Nazis and fascists. I see people without compassion, who don’t believe humans were created equal or that everyone should have the same rights as others. They’re BIGOTS, plain and simple. And if you agree with them, you’re a BIGOT, too.

Wow, so persuasive. In a 183 words, he manages to compare his opponents to racists, fascists, and Nazis and call them bigots several times, never considering that these “BIGOTS” make up around 60-70% of the State. This is all why you liberals in Idaho are going to lose.

I mean what happens here is people on the most respect liberal blog in Idaho go, “Wow! This is so awesome.” because it reflects their own general contempt for the people who make Idaho home and you’re not going to win elections that way.
