Who Does Shelia Sorenson Represent?

Posted by Adam Graham on March 17, 2006

Idaho 1st Congressional District candidate Sheila Sorensen was one of the honorees Monday night at a Womens Campaign Fund event that featured a dozen swanky dinners all over New York City and a guest list that included Sen. John and Teresa Heinz Kerry, former Texas Gov. Ann Richards, Martha Stewart, New Jersey Gov. John Corzine, Def Jam Records founder Russell Simmons and more.

The keynote speaker? Outspoken Liberal Al Franken.

The group works to elect pro-choice women of both parties, and Sorensen often fought restrictions on abortion while she was in the Legislature.

She and a handful of other Republican women candidates were heavily outnumbered by Democrats at the fund-raiser.

Sorensen spokesman Chuck Malloy said he didn’t know yet how much money Sorensen raised in conjunction with the trip.

Sorensen is no moderate on abortion. She doesn’t belong in Idaho’s Congressional delegation. The fact is that she’ll go up to Washington as probably the most liberal Western Republican woman in recent memory if elected. She’ll also really do nothing about out of control spending. Lets get a real Republican in office. I’ll be making an endorsement soon.

Taking the Bull by the Horns

Posted by Adam Graham on March 17, 2006

Cross-posted from Where I Stand:

There are two types of people in regards to politics. There are those who complain about politics and then there are those who do something about it. I definitely want to be in the “do something about it” camp. Today, I went down and filed for the Republican Precinct Committeeman position from my precinct here in Boise.

The job pays nothing and ideally involves one meeting a month, and maybe some projects. Though, I intend to shut up and listen for the first few months, feel out what people stand for, and what’s going on.

Of course, this isn’t my first venture into offcial Republican Party politics. I served as a Precinct Committeeman in Flathead County from 2000-2002 and then from 2002-2003 . (about a 6 month break in service) before being exalted to the high and awesome perch of County Party Secretary in the 2003 leadership elections before having to resign when I moved to Idaho.

So, ready or not, Ada County Republican Party, here I come.

Register to Post Weekend Open Trackbacks

Posted by Adam Graham on March 17, 2006

Its a day I hoped to put off for as long as possible, but comments now require registration. This decision was made because Comment spam got my hosting account suspended. I’m switching hosts shortly, so this may change, but for now posting requires registration.

Now, I’d like to ask everyone who likes this blogs and likes to comment on it to register. The nice thing about b2evolution is you can set it up so you are remembered which means you sign in the first time and that’s it.

This also makes it much easier to have people as Guest Bloggers. If you’re registered, then I just need to click a button, rather than having you register. Registeration will not be used to censor users. I’ve not banned a user in more than a year and a half and I don’t intend to start. So, I’d love to have your comments, but I need to be rid of the comment spam, so please register today.

The good news for those who choose not to register is that you don’t have to register to do trackbacks.

Today’s Open Trackback post will be updated less frequently throughout the day then some prior editions as Andrea and I will be at a marriage conference. Trackbacks will work the same and I will update them once I get back from the conference, but all the links will get listed. I promise (pinky swear).

Now, welcome to today’s Open Trackback party:

1) Post about anything that’s in good taste. No porn, no spam, no profanity.

2) Send me a trackback of any tasteful post you want and as soon as I check my blog, I’ll update this post with your link provided you link back to this thread. If your software won’t allow you to send trackbacks, just use the Wizbang Standalone Pinger

3) Deadline is Sunday at 11:00 PM MDT. Further trackbacks won’t be posted after that time.

Click above to see all the great places you can promote your work today.

Hide the Truth

Posted by Adam Graham on March 17, 2006

Dawn Eden broke this story about a young woman who got an abortion. What happened afterwards was somewhat sickening:

When I turned around, there wasn’t a lot of blood in the toilet–just one roughly lemon-sized clot, and next to it, something that was most definitely not clot-colored. I leaned over and squinted at it, and holy sh-t, there was a freaking embryo in my toilet! They had told me that I probably wouldn’t be able to see anything–that anything recognizable probably wouldn’t show up unless I was more than eight weeks along, and I was only seven. But this thing, even seeing it in the toilet, was undeniably the embryo. I would say it was just a little bit longer than the diameter of a quarter.

So I found a brush, scooted the embryo up and out of the water, and put it on a square of toilet paper so I could look at it (and threw the brush away). I didn’t know what to think about it at first, but the more and closer I looked at it, the more I thought it had to be the single neatest thing I had ever seen. I didn’t want to touch it because it looked so gelatinous, like I might accidentally pop it. But I was looking at it and seeing the teeny face (it was at the point where it has the huge flat nose and looks kind of like a puppy) and the little webbed flipper feet and the huge black eyes, going “HOLY CRAP THIS THING IS FREAKING AWESOME.” I called Austin up to see it, and he wasn’t quite as giddy about it but he still wanted to see it. Apparently he didn’t realize it would have fingers and toes and all of that so soon.

Christina over at Real Choice had the picture on her website and something funny happened. After the woman had posted her picture and posted so openly and happily about her abortion, the picture and the post vanished. *poof* Then a friend of the woman threatened a lawsuit at which point, the picture was pulled, not because Christina was so concerned about a lawsuit. As she put it, “Of course, suing me would be a waste of time because it’d cost more to file the paperwork than the total cash value of everything I own….”

What I find interesting is the aversion of the pro-abortion crowd to the truth. I always find this attitude on the abortion pictures amazing. They tell us abortion’s okay, they tell us they’re glad they had an abortion, but they never want us to see the bi-product, and apparent Michelle got one of her friends to come and play lawyer with the intent of intimidating people from seeing the truth. If choice is so beautiful and to be celebrated, why can’t we see the results of it?

Why are those who show us graphic pictures of abortion extremist monsters while those who actually perform them are heroes worthy of days like “The National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers”.

In the end, while this woman, like the ostrich who carelessly destroys its offspring will forget this child, yet someone will remember, and someone will mourn a life lost.

Friday Night: Bible Seminar: But Christians Don’t Criticize Other People

Posted by Adam Graham on March 17, 2006

Wow, I’m getting a full-fledged Bible Seminar (minus any actual citations to Bible verses) from a student at ISU posting on my blog. She’s upset about a post I made criticizing Tara Rowe at The Politcal Game for a post regarding correspondence with State Senate Majority Bart Davis. Of Tara’s reply in which she accused Senator Davis of treating her as a “an average know-nothing college student.” Here’s what I wrote regarding Tara’s letter and general tone:

No, Tara doesn’t strike me as one of those “average know-nothing college students” (those would be her constituents (the ones who voted for her as a Student Senator.) She strikes me as one of those above average, slightly arrogant students who believes she’s figured the world out, and has little respect for anyone who disagrees with her. Given that, Davis’ response was completely appropriate.

Of course the idea of saying “average know nothing college students” by a Student Senator insults her constituents and that was what I was referring to in the first paragraph. Its one of those things where I said Tara’s obviously fairly bright, but also somewhat arrogant in her views. She treated the leader of our State Senate with some undeserved contempt. So, I stated my opinion.

Well, today, I got sage Bible advice from an ISU Student:

I am sorry, but when did Jesus teach us to criticize people just because we don’t agree with a decision they make? Jesus taught us to love our enemies, to bless them that curse us, do good to them that hate us, and pray for them which despitefully use us and persecute us. Perhaps you should spend less time blogging and more time reading from the book which is the foundation for your religion, Christianity.

Wow, I’m not sure I criticized Tara for a decision (unless arrogance counts.) Second, I don’t hate Tara. In fact I said she was “an above average student”. While there’s certainly a case for reading the Bible more and Blogging less, I reject the idea behind this post and a subsequent one she made on a poetry post (I deleted her comment from there BTW. Don’t touch my poetry. If you like it, talk about it, don’t go off on unrelated political stuff.):

Maybe you can recite this before you criticize people you don’t know??? Just an idea.

Of course, our ISU Student followed up on the Original post with this:

I am sorry, I should’ve left the reference because you might not know where to find that particular scripture (oh, and I will post an extra scripture that might benefityou-your welcome):

Matthew 5:44-45 (hint: it is in the NEW Testament).

Which leads me to wonder whether they’ve started to offer classes on Arrogance.

The idea behind the post is that Jesus was just a soft, pillow guy. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the most dangerous thing in the world is a little bit of scripture, because taken in isolation it leads us to an unbalanced life.

Christ had some very critical observations:

And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?-Luke 11:39,40

Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?-Matthew 23:33

But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.-Matthew 16:23

I could go on, but here’s the point. The Jesus of the Bible wasn’t some pansey who never said anything controversial. If you look at Jesus, he was someone who stirred things up so much that people wanted to kill him and you don’t do that, by just being so soft and kind all the time.

The thing that’s really sick is that these people don’t believe that, for example, you shouldn’t criticize people you don’t know. If that were the standard, none of them would have blogs, they’d all hang out on Xanga and whine about their parents. Its just an argument to get people to shut up, to silence people, and I’m not going for it.

I’ve got two words that show their duplicity on this: Brandi Swindell. These leftist roasted Brandi up one side, down the other. They’ve thrown every dirty and cruel personal attack they can think of on her and I respond to some of it, because its so wrong, and some of this stuff is so vicious.

Its not saying something like, “She’s slightly arrogant.” Oh my gosh, what an awful accusation. I mean, she’s got to be in tears and scandalized.

I trust from reading her blog that Tara is capable of handling being called “slightly arrogant” and still managing to live her life. Might be a good suggestion for her friends, too.
