Why You Can’t Trust the Left on Religious Freedom

Posted by Adam Graham on March 20, 2006

Courtesy of Persecution Blog and LaShawn Barber about a man in Afghanistan who faces execution for converting to Christianity:

Islamic sharia law proposes the death sentence for Muslims who abandon the religion. Afghanistan’s new constitution says “no law can be contrary to the sacred religion of Islam.”

He would be charged with abandoning Islam, Mr Mawlavizada said.

“The prosecutor says he should be executed on the basis of the constitution,” Mr Mawlavizada said, who added that Mr Rahman could come back to Islam…”If he does not … he will be punished,” he said.

Its a dire situation worthy of prayer and soon action. Americans spilt a lot of blood in Afghanistan and hopefully a call from the American people will lead to some type of clemency. Your prayers are greatly appreciated.

Meanwhile, Russ illustrates why liberals can’t be trusted to preserve freedom of religion for those who disagree with their viewpoints. Russ writes:

Hell, few Americans are familiar with democracy and toleration! I wonder how Dominic feels about gay marriage or women’s reproductive freedom?

Because denying a woman’s right to have a doctor insert scissors into the base of the skull of her eight month old fetus or refusing to let homosexuals marry is the same as EXECUTING people for disbelieving in Islam.

The execution would violate the UN Declaration of Human Rights which is recognized in Afghanistan’s Consitutiton. Of this Russ writes:

Would that be that horrible document of secular humanism, the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as Adam is always referring to in his Ten Commandments arguements?

The UN Declaration is a joke as illustrated by the story. Something that grants rights to personality development and participation in the arts as foundation to fundamental rights is going to be ignored.

Russ concludes:

Well, there you have it, Christians. Live by the Crusade, die by the Crusade.

Wow, and like I said, that’s why you can’t trust the left with religious liberty. First of all, do I think Russ would ever do violence against religious people? No. But what it shows is that Russ takes a flippant attitude towards it.

Lets imagine some scenarios. Lets say:

1) All Evangelical Christians were rounded up and deported from the State of New York:

Predicted Liberal Reaction: Shows them for not supporting gay marriage.

2) Muslims in Detroit kill hundreds of Christians and burn dozens of churches to the ground:

Predicted Reaction: Well, when you don’t clearly support the Seperation of Church and State, that happens.

3) Christians Put in Re-Education Camp in California

Predicted Reaction: Call it Reparitive Theory for anti-gay bigots

If Russ reacts like this to the persecution of foreigners, why would he react any differently to the persecution of American Christians? Any persecution is not just facilitated by bloodthirsty regimes, but those who couldn’t care less about what those regimes are doing.

The Anorexic Discount

Posted by Adam Graham on March 20, 2006

From Reuters the story of a Hotel providing a discount to in-shape guests:

In the town of Norden, close to the Dutch border, guests now have to step onto the scales before moving into their rooms and fork out half a euro ($0.61) per kilogram (2.2 lbs).

“I had many guests who were really huge and I told them to slim down,” said Juergen Heckrodt, owner of the three-star establishment. “When they came back the year after and had lost a lot of weight they asked me what are you gonna do for me now?”

Heckrodt said he hoped his initiative would inspire Germans to become leaner and healthier.

“Healthy guests live longer and can come back more often.”

Larger customers may be reassured that the hotel turns no one away who refuses to step on the scales and charges no guest more than 39 euros, the normal single room price.

Okay so half a Euro per Kilo, you stop getting any discount at 78 Kilos, 171.6 pounds. Now, does this seem like a dumb idea to anyone else?

Think about it. At 171, for some heights that’s actually overweight, and for others that’s underweight.

The Anorexic Girl who keeps down to about 80 pounds had somewhere she can go stay for 18 euros. What a steal! People go on vacation to relax, not to be told by some busybody clerk that they’re too fat. Thanks, much, but if European culture is anything like American culture, we get enough of that as is.

My Stance on Iraq Three Years Later

Posted by Adam Graham on March 20, 2006

On the Third Anniversary of the Iraq War, I want to share what I wrote back in March of 2003, three years ago Saturday on my old blog.

War is coming. Of that there is no doubt. Within a day or so, I suppose it will start. I hope and pray that everything will be over as quickly as people say. However, quick victories are rarely accomplished as neatly as we’d like. We may be getting in for more than we bargain for.

To the principled opponents of the war, I acknowledge their honest desire for peace. However, they’ve allowed to speak for them, a group of Americans so full of hatred for this country and everything that’s good and right about it, that reasonable men couldn’t help but tune out their message.

To the supporters of war, you have what you want. 65% of Americans support the war, we’re told. That support for our President and our troops must not be abated because of high casualities. This is the risk of war. If we look at a loss of military life and we say, “For 10,000 lives it’s not worth it.” we should not send them all. Support our troops, remain steadfast in standing behind this war. Retreat is not option, only victory or defeat.

God bless our President, God bless our soldiers, and God bless the United States of America.

I was hardly enthusiastic about this war, but I understood what the opponents of this war never have. Its victory or defeat. Its honor or disgrace, and if we leave now, we’ll never be able to fight another war again. There’s only one way to leave Iraq and that is with honor.

I was right then and I’m right now. Stay the course!
