UPI notes that Karl Rove and George W. Bush aren’t predicting massive Republican losses in the Fall:
While some predict Republicans could lose up to 25 seats in the House, Rove predicts the GOP will lose eight to 10 — fewer than the 15 seats the Democrats need to gain control, the Washington Post said Sunday.
Rove predicted Democrats wouldn’t be able to capture the six seats needed to retake the Senate, either, the Post said.
Bush is similarly upbeat, saying, “We’ll have a Republican speaker and a Republican leader of the Senate.”
This election is not a slam dunk, but the Democrats are still going to struggle to defeat something with nothing. I also think that they’re making a big deal of polls a few weeks out from the election. Republicans are concerned, yes. Worried, yes, but that’s going to serve as a motivator to work harder than ever before to get people to the polls.
That’s what Rove is counting on. Whether he’s right-that remains to be seen.
