Sign Off For Now

Posted by Adam Graham on June 25, 2007

As b2evolution is very hard to escape, I’m going to make this my sign off on b2evo and the current adamweb.us/blog. This way, Andrea can archive the site and transfer it to wordpress.com which should very easily and smoothly make for a transfer to my own WordPress blog, starting some time Thursday afternoon.

B2evolution despite it’s numerous flaws and holes for spam to creep in has provided a lot of fun over the years. Still, like all good things, this must come to an end.

So for now, adieu, best of luck to those who will continue to have the software.

My blog posts for Tuesday and Wednesday will appear .here and we relaunch on Thursday with WordPress.

Protesting Gonzalez And Other Fun Things to Do When You Lose Elections

Posted by Adam Graham on June 25, 2007

There are many negative things you can say about my prototypical big spending congressman. He’s got one good thing going for him, he’s not Jim Hansen who is leading a protest against our Attorney General. Hansen writes:

It appears this visit is designed to show that people in communities like Boise, Idaho support Gonzalez and Bush’s policies. They have kept the visit quiet as long as they could to ensure a bare minimum of publicity. They need to take pretty pictures back to DC to show that America really does support Gonzalez, even though millions of people are calling for his resignation or impeachment and for a repudiation of the Bush administration’s torture and domestic surveillance policies.

Jim, this is the 21st Century and whether you or your buddies would care to admit it, we are at war. You don’t telegraph where you’re going. The Attorney General has a press availability, and a visit to US Attorneys and an anti-drug task force. There’s not going to be a parade in his honor, just business.

Of course, a big deal is being made of Governor Otter not meeting with the Attorney General:

It is interesting to note that Gonzalez is not even meeting with our Governor. That is probably because when he was a Congressman, Otter was one of the strongest opponents of the deceptively-named “USA PATRIOT ACT”, an act that President Bush and his AG are using to undermine over 100 years of protected civil rights in this country.

This is most likely because there’s nothing the two need to discuss and the Governor’s schedule is full. If they needed to meet, they would. Even if you disagree with someone in another department, if you’re elected to office, you cooperate for the good of the country. It’s part of mature leadership.

Young Conservative Intellect

Posted by Adam Graham on June 25, 2007

David Keene made a keen observation recently:

Mr. Keene said the problem in finding young leadership is that “the so-called conservative movement of today consists of many young people attracted to politics by one or another politician but without a lot of thought about the philosophical underpinnings that united previous generations of conservatives.”

A couple people have now tied this to reading and a thorough knowledge of coservative philosophers such as Friedman or Hayek. While, I would agree with Keene on the problem, I don’t know if the answer is dusting off the old, old classics. Somehow, I’ve managed to form astrong conservative worldview including fiscal, social, and national defense from studying those who read them. I do have Russell Kirk’s “The Conservative Mind” on my mental list of books to read some day.

The point is that consistent worldviews need to be established as many folks on both sides tend to move on pure sentimentality rather than reasoned thought.

The Day of the Court

Posted by Adam Graham on June 25, 2007

Truth and Hope Report Show Notes

The Supreme Court is reaffirming things we should already kow. For example, freedom of speech means you can run TV ads that mention a candidate for office as part of a grassroots lobbying campaign

The court ruled that contrary to what the Freedom From Religion Foundation thinks, being a group of anti-Christian cumudgeons doesn’t give them standing to sue over the faith based iniatative.

The high court also declared Bong Hits for Jesus isn’t about freedom of speech or religion, but rather a teenage kid behaving badly.

Meanwhile, a lawyer that tried to take a Korean launderer to the cleaners over what became known as the pants suit got his justice deserts from a DC district court. Hat Tip: Wizbang Blog.

Of course the Constitution is still very fragile (as evidenced by the fact that the intepretatio of basic rights is up for grabs in federal court. One example, a Florida law which has police arresting the Gideons for distributing Bibles on a public sidewalk.

The bill that wouldn’t die (aka. The Amnesty Bill) is coming back to the Senate despite widespread public opposition. Liberal columnist Bonnie Erbe is predicting defeat for the bill. I say, “Let’s put the nail in the coffin.”

Finally, we take a look at how abortion hurts the Democrats and why Republicans would be fools to nomination Giuliani according to a recent New York Times piece. (hat tip: Jill Stanek)

Quote to Live By

“When principles that run against your deepest convictions begin to win the day, then battle is your calling, and peace has become sin; you must, at the price of dearest peace, lay your convictions bare before friend and enemy, with all the fire of your faith.”-Abraham Kuyper

A Charmed Life

Posted by Adam Graham on June 25, 2007

Okay, so Fred Thompson is garnering praise from his ex-girlfriends and is on good terms with them all? I don’t know if that qualifies him to be President, but it does qualify him to write relationship books. Think of him as like Dr. Phil, only bald and with a Southern accent-er wait, Dr. Phil is bald and has a Southern accent-never mind. (Hat Tip: Instapundit.)
