A Good Charity for Captialists

Posted by Adam Graham on January 20, 2007

Sara over at the liberal blog F-words highly reccomends the charity Kiva and from the description it sounds like a great effort:

Kiva.org allows individuals to make $25 loans to low-income entrepreneurs in the developing world (microfinance). By doing so, individuals like you provide affordable working capital for the poor (money to buy a sewing machine, livestock, etc.), empowering them to earn their way out of poverty.

Really, it’s a great idea, plus with high loan repayment rates, it allows you to keep lending the same $25 or $50 over and over again. This may do more good than simply sending fish, you’re giving people a fishing pole so they can fish for themselves.
