Clamping Down Weekend Open Trackbacks

Posted by Adam Graham on February 9, 2007

Unrestricted Trackbacks will be allowed on Adam’s blog for this weekend Trackback party. The result? You guessed it. Spam. This blog, with more than 3,000 pages, has thousands upon thousands of spam trackbacks. My wife and I have spent several days deleting trackback spam and it just keeps building up.

The reason I’ve kept Trackbacks on the site is that I love Trackback parties. However, the spam has become so overwhelming that something needs to be done. So effective next week a new process for Trackbacks will be put in place. We’ll continue to hold Open TB parties here at Adam’s blog, but they’ll be a new process that will stamp out the spammers. Here it is.

When an unregistered user comes to the blog, they’ll see a box like this:

Enter the characters as shown in the box and something like this should appear

This is a Trackback URL that’s good one time only so that we can seperate humans from spammer bots. For you, the readers of the blog, this will mean less spam on posts.

Next week, the process changes and I know it can be a little annoying, but please help us take a bite out of Trackback spam.

Now, onto the Party. First, the rules:

1) Post about anything that’s in good taste. No porn, no spam, no profanity.
2) Send me a trackback of any tasteful post you want and as soon as I check my blog, I’ll update this post with your link provided you link back to this thread. If your software won’t allow you to send trackbacks, just use the Wizbang Standalone Pinger
3) Deadline is Wednesday at 11:00 PM MT. Further trackbacks won’t be posted after that time.

For your convenience here’s today’s link and the trackback:

Below are other great parties:

Arabic Music
I was 21 and waiting to board a bus headed toward the only un-drownable lake on earth, the Dead Sea. When I got on, the Arab driver had the radio tuned to this most beautiful song in Arabic.

William Arkin and the American Soldier
I’m still mad at the ‘journalist’ William Arkin. I didn’t realize that I was still mad or really HOW mad I was until I happened to run across this article earlier today.

Not enough time to get it right

That’s what the “expert” panel tasked with reviewing “tunnel light” has to say about their rush job. They don’t have enough time to let the people know if they can trust the city of Seattle’s cost estimates for Greg Nickel’s latest legacy building sc.

Detroit Free Press Columnist Proposes Overturning Election, Overthrow Of Government
Frankly, I don’t see what else you can call this proposal by Rochelle Riley. How long would it take to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney? A day? It could be the day after impeachment hearings ended in the conviction of…

The Wide Awakes

Civility on the Internet
Two recent situations involving bloggers turned out in quite different ways — and I think they illustrate some of the good and the bad that you get from the internet. As I’ve always said, the internet has the best of the best — but i…

Benjamin Zephaniah’s Turkey
The British education system continued its death-spiral this week with the news that stuff like this from W.B. Yeats:
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy …

New Google-type search: Moogle
what the Muslim world needs is Moogle, a Muslim search engine. It must be very frustrating for Muslims to use ordinary google and search for “the greatest number of Nobel Prize winners” and get back the answer: Jews.

World News Stops for death of Anna Nicole Smith
it seems the world’s most loved, worshipped and important person died today. How, why, when, with whom, was she on drugs, was it the weight loss, who will get her her baby? Who is the father anyway? Seems poor Anna is getting better press in her deat…

Global Warming: Do ALL Scientists Really Agree On This?

According to global warming proponents, virtually all scientists agree fully about this. Fact is, scientists don’t agree. Not only on the overall topic, but also (and especially) on various details regarding the theory of global warming and the the…

Stop Sylvia Browne

Now here’s an interesting website called “Stop Sylvia Browne.” Sylvia Browne, for those who don’t know, is a self-proclaimed “psychic” who has a lengthy history of false predictions and proven false psychic readings. One notable falsehoods of Brown…
