Limbo Lower Now

Posted by Adam Graham on April 22, 2007

The Vatican has changed their policy on limbo:

VATICAN CITY — Pope Benedict XVI has reversed centuries of traditional Roman Catholic teaching on limbo, approving a Vatican report released Friday that says there were “serious” grounds to hope that children who die without being baptized can go to heaven.

Now, of course much of the prior view on limbo had no basis in scripture and could at best be described as theological guestwork, the Florida Masochist opines:

I’ve always felt the church leadership is far removed from reality. They preach their own misguided beliefs, which is often influenced by money, rather than the word of God.

Well, I never knew there was a lot of money in the limbo doctrine. Yes, there have been abuses of purgatory, but limbo, hardly.

What a bunch of bull crap. If that’s God, God help us. What about the billions of people on earth who don’t practice christianity? Jews, Hindus, Buddhists. They’re all banned from heaven. Yeah explain to me how this warped doctrine makes any real sense.

It’s not a warped doctrined, it’s based on the Bible, the word of God. “The wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23) combined with “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) leave us in an awful predicament, because all are under that penalty of spiritual death through the sins they’ve committed, and it’s only through Christ’s blood that we can be cleansed, no other way.

Babies, having no knowledge of sin baptized or not, I believe will go to Heaven. That’s my best guess based on scripture and my understanding of God’s character.
