Chief Bender Midweek Open Trackbacks

Chief Bender was a Hall-of-Fame pitcher, but it’s not his pitching we honor today. On this day in baseball history, May 8, 1906, the pitcher had an extraoirdinary accomplishment:

With the A’s shorthanded because of injuries, Connie Mack puts pitcher Alvin “Chief” Bender in left field in the sixth inning of a game against the Boston Pilgrims. Bender hits two inside-the-park home runs.
