The Last Trackback Party

Posted by Adam Graham on June 22, 2007

This will be the last trackback party with our current blog software. I’m going to skip the midweek Open Trackbacks Party for next week, so that we can pull off a good move to WordPress by Wednesday Night.

Thanks to Andrea, who is in the process of moving nearly 4000 posts to WordPress.com and hopefully once the weirdness is over, we’ll be able to hold a grand old open trackback party without the capecha, back here at Adam’s blog (and all the people say, “Yeah!”.)

First, the rules:

1) Post about anything that’s in good taste. No porn, no spam, no profanity.
2) Send me a trackback of any tasteful post you want and as soon as I check my blog, I’ll update this post with your link provided you link back to this thread. If your software won’t allow you to send trackbacks, just use the Wizbang Standalone Pinger.
3) Deadline is Sunday at 11:00 PM MT. Further trackbacks won’t be posted after that time.

For your convenience here’s today’s link. If you’re a registered user, the, trackback should appear below. If not, here’s the process:

Enter the characters as shown in the box and something like this should appear

This is a Trackback URL that’s good one time only so that we can seperate humans from spammer bots.

Eating the Elephant Midweek Open Trackbacks

Posted by Adam Graham on June 19, 2007

I just got “Promoting Your Podcast” by Jason Van Orden in the mail and after reading the first chapter, I’m overwhelmed that there are several more in the book, because I realize I’ve got a lot of work to do on my podcasts, with five seperate ones that need promoted.

So how am I going to do it? It’s like the old joke, “How do you eat an elephant?” Answer: One bite at a time. So, I’ll take Chapter 1’s tips and implement them on my podcasts and then I’ll move onto Chapter 2’s, Chapter 3’s and so on. And within a few months, I’ll have that elephant eaten. Yum.

Now, onto today’s trackback party. Here are the rules.

Three Last Minute Father’s Day Gifts

Posted by Adam Graham on June 15, 2007

Finding gifts has always come fairly natural to me. I don’t know how impressed the recipients have been, but I can always come up with something, and anyone I get a gift understands, “It’s the thought that count.”

However, I’ve gathered from some of my co-workers that when it comes to finding a father’s day gift, you might as well ask them to go shop for Batman. Some people are honestly lost, so I’ll share some ideas:

1) DVD Box Set

Always nice. Find a TV show your dad likes and by him the box set. Particularly, if he watches reruns a lot. With the box set he can watch the reruns without commercials which saves him time and means no channel surfing, which will save him from anxiety from the female set.

2) Gift Certificate

It’s pretty simple. Find a store your dad likes or would like. (If he’s into tools, for example, Home Depot would be a good pick.) If you wish your dad to visit you and you live far away, buy a gift certificate to a store that can only be redeemed in your area. He’ll appreciate the manipulation and nagging or maybe not. Regardless, stick it in a lovely (or hilarious) Father’s Day Card and off you go. (the lovely Andrea edited this in case you couldn’t tell)

3) Donation

If your dad truly has everything, why not give a donation in his name to a cause he’d appreciate?

The Gideons have a great memorial Bible program, but there are others. Show him that he raised you right and that’ll be the best gift of all.

Hey, Dads out there, what would you like for Father’s day? Anyone have any other suggestions for the millions of Father’s Day procrastinators out there?

This post will also be our weekend open trackbacks party.

Evolution News and Views Midweek Open Trackbacks

Posted by Adam Graham on June 12, 2007

In my continuing quest to introduce you to interesting blogs, I’m pleased to hold this Open Trackbacks Party in honor of Evolution News and Views, a Discovery Institute Blog covering stories related to evolution and Intelligent Design. It features a lot of intelligent content (although many will insist that the blog began billions of years ago in a silicon pool and over time and with random mutations and undirected natural processes, text was formed and then millions of years later, the programming language for movable type evolved and thus we have a blog.) Regardless, check it out, it’s quite fascinating.

Now, onto today’s trackback party. Here are the rules.

Green Eye Shade Weekend Open Trackbacks

Posted by Adam Graham on June 8, 2007

I’ve decided to (as a feature of the Open Trackbacks) provide information on a blog I read and why I read it. (If I can’t think of a reason why I read it, then I think it’s time to stop.)

This week, it’s Green Eyeshade, a blog about government spending by a Congressman who is also an accountant. I know it doesn’t sound exciting, but it provides information I consider insightful and important so that I can understand a little bit of what’s going on in Washington. It’s good to have someone not talking out of his hat on this point. So my reccomended Blog read for this week is Green Eye Shade.

On to the party. First, the rules:

1) Post about anything that’s in good taste. No porn, no spam, no profanity.

Pop Culture Illiterate Weekend Open Trackbacks

Posted by Adam Graham on June 1, 2007

I don’t know who won American idol and I don’t care. Yet, somehow I know enough to know that Simon Cowell’s a real jerk. I’ve not seen the latest films, so I confess. I’m a pop culture illiterate.

Of course, this presents a problem. How do you function in society without knowing the lead singer for (whatever the name of that big band that’s really popular.) Am I helplessly out of touch? Do I need a federally funded rehab at E! Entertainment networks to make me functional in today’s society and is this proof that homeschooled kids lack necessary skills (like being able to recite the popular song of a moment a thousand times or debating the minutae of a staged reality TV show?) The questions abound. How will I survive, whatever will I do? I’ll manage I guess.

Enough about me, on to the party. First, the rules:

1) Post about anything that’s in good taste. No porn, no spam, no profanity.

Do You Digg It? Midweek Open Trackbacks

Posted by Adam Graham on May 29, 2007

Some of you (the more observant anyway) may have noticed the “digg” button at the bottom of each posts. You may wonder, what is digg?

Digg is a social bookmarking site (not to be confused with a social networking site like MySpace.) Posts are promoted in part based on their popularity. My personal record heretofore is something like 47 diggs for a post on this blog.

When posts are dugg on digg, they’re more likely to be read, shared, or spread. Sign up for an account with digg and any posts you think other people should read, you have the option of hitting the digg button to let other people know about it, not just your friends. Do you digg it?

Now, onto today’s trackback party. Here are the rules.

1) Post about anything that’s in good taste. No porn, no spam, no profanity.

Let John Cox In Weekend Open Trackbacks

Posted by Adam Graham on May 25, 2007

We’ve all heard the saying that anybody can grow up and run for President. Sadly, this has become less true as time goes on. Now, the man I’m working for, John Cox is being locked out of the debate process despite having campaigned across Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, and picking up many supporters as he goes.

In debates that will include candidates like Governor Jim Gilmore, Congressman Duncan Hunter, or Congressman Ron Paul (all of whom finished no better in the latest Des Moines Register Poll), there’s a certain lack of fairness in the process. I’d ask you to use the information below to contact WMUR/CNN, etc. to help get Mr. Cox in the debate, even if you don’t support him (please also sign this petition as well.) All voices should be heard before we make the important choice of a presidential candidate.

To get Republican Presidential Candidate John Cox into the Republican Presidential Debate on June 5 in New Hampshire. The debate is being hosted by CNN, WMUR-TV, and the New Hampshire Union Leader newspaper. We need to call, e-mail and fax the sponsors of the debate and insist that they include John Cox in the debate.

Contact

New Hampshire Union Leader
E-mail: writeus@unionleader.com
Phone: 603-668-4321 or 1-800-562-8218
Fax: 603-668-0382

CNN
To e-mail go to the website: www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form.sound.off.html
Phone: 404-827-2750

WMUR-TV
To e-mail go to the website: www.wmur.com/contact/
Phone: 800-257-5151
Fax: 603-641-9005

Outline

Tell them that you and others want John Cox included in the Debate on June 5.
Tell them that 60 percent of Republicans are still undecided and that Republicans are still waiting for another candidate to emerge. John Cox is that candidate.
Tell them that candidates like Ron Paul, Jim Gilmore, and Tommy Thompson are not gaining new supporters since they’ve been in the last 2 televised debates.
The sponsors need to shake things up and add a new face to the debate. By adding John Cox to the debate, viewers will get another reason to watch the debate and they’ll see John Cox criticize the other candidates, there will be fireworks thus creating news stories. The viewers will see that John Cox is the Ronald Reagan conservative that they’ve been looking for. In South Carolina, John Cox is already listed on the ballot for the Republican Presidential Primary. In South Carolina, John Cox beat all of the other Republican Presidential Candidates in the Aiken County Republican Party Straw Poll, and he came in 2nd place in the McCormick County Straw Poll. In all of the other straw polls in South Carolina, John Cox repeatedly received more votes than Ron Paul, Jim Gilmore, Tommy Thompson, Tom Tancredo, and Sam Brownback.
In Iowa, all of the Republican County Chairmen were surveyed by a website, www.IowaPolitics.com and when the county chairmen were asked which candidate they would be willing to support, John Cox came in 5th place.

Encourage them to visit the campaign website: www.Cox2008.com
Reiterate the importance of adding a new face to the debate to make it more interesting. They need to add John Cox.

Back to the Past Weekend Open Trackbacks

Posted by Adam Graham on May 18, 2007

There was a time when folks came and gathered around the radio with their family and friends to listen to the latest dramas, comedies, and science fiction hits. Today, we’ve become more solitary and more than that, our old friends are spread out all over the country and maybe all over the world. How can we ever recreate that experience.

Well, you can thanks to Paul Stanton who showed me how to use the Gizmo Project for Live Podcasts. Gizmo allows me to play sounds including the sound of a public domain, old time Radio Show, in this case, Dragnet.

So, gather round with me as we listen to the case of Myra the Red Head. Click here on Saturday Night at 6:15 PM MT (or 8:15 ET) and join us for a brief live chat before and after the show. Gather around, bring some friends, and let’s sit around our computer (wherever they may be) and talk about the show and have a good time.

Also, for a taste of real radio experience. Join me and the other Light at the Edge of Darkness players as we present a brand new Radio drama live, “Frozen Generation” a tale of an African American woman who smuggles extracted embryos in her womb to help them escape a life of slavery. Join us at 4 PM MT, 6 PM ET for “Light at the Edge of Darkness“. To fully enjoy either experience, it’s reccomended you join Talkshoe and download their software.

Now onto the party:

Posted by Adam Graham on May 15, 2007

On Wednesday Night, I’ll be interviewing Presidential Candidate John Cox for my podcast. We’ll be using the podcast for both my normal Wednesday Night show and also from here we’ll create a few weeks of short vignettes for the Cox Campaign podcast.

The interview will be from 7-8 MT, 9-10 ET. You can participate and ask questions by registering with Talkshoe and either calling in or asking questions in the chatroom (if you download the TalkShoe Software.) or you can also e-mail me your questions. You also can simply listen in by going to the show page at the time of the podcast. That’s also where you can launch the program.

Now, onto today’s trackback party. Here are the rules.

Chief Bender Midweek Open Trackbacks

Posted by Adam Graham on May 8, 2007

Chief Bender was a Hall-of-Fame pitcher, but it’s not his pitching we honor today. On this day in baseball history, May 8, 1906, the pitcher had an extraoirdinary accomplishment:

With the A’s shorthanded because of injuries, Connie Mack puts pitcher Alvin “Chief” Bender in left field in the sixth inning of a game against the Boston Pilgrims. Bender hits two inside-the-park home runs.

Now, onto today’s trackback party. Here are the rules.
